Here I’m going to talk about panels that were been burned into my skull and remained in my memory years after reading the comic where it came from.
I would like to point out that I’m no expert when it comes to analyzing art. This is more why I love these panels and less why this panel is the best. Now that’s out of the way, let’s dive in.
The first panels that have been in my mind are from Akira Vol. 1:
For full context, here’s the page where it comes from.
I think the reason why I like these panels is that I feel it’s a good way to visually show how Kanada is trespassing the personal space of Takashi (the little wrinkle guy). Both Kanada and Takashi have the same panel size, but the Takashi is forced to the bottom of the panel due to Kanada’s speech bubble being over him.
Other than the dominance of Kanada, the panels also show that Kanada is moving between the first panel and the second panel. We can see that by the eye direction of Takashi. This, however, becomes even more clear when we add the third panel. It all feels smooth.
Overall, I think these panels show good use of close up and composition.
What do you think? If you agree or disagree, feel free to express yourself in the comments. Any particular panels you love?
